Fort Salem

Fort Salem is actually Riverview Hospital.  Address:  2601 Lougheed Hwy., Coquitlam, BC V3C 4J2

It is a public park, freely open to the public.  It has free car parking and a good bus service.  It is built on a hill, so good walking shoes are advised.  There are roads, which make many of the locations accessible, but some parts of the site can only be accessed on foot.  It is not possible to go inside any of the buildings.

This is a map of the Riverview site.  The important parts for Motherland are below:

Starting at the bottom of the hill, #8 is the Crease Unit or Circe Barracks.

Number 7 is the Crease Unit Cafeteria.  But it was closed a long time ago.  There was some filming done in this building, but far more filming was done in the space between #7 and the back of #8.

To the left is Motherland’s Refectory, to the right, is the back of Circe Barracks.

From the other direction,

Or a more detailed look at the end of the building,

Or from another angle,

This is where ‘Helen’ and Raelle were doing guard duty and checking the windows.

Going further up the hill, #6 is the East Lawn Building, better known as General Alder’s Office.

Fron there, go west.  You come to the Pharmacy and the Pavilion.  Both have been used in filming.

Keep going west.

You come to the hospital.  Most memorably, Scylla sat outside here waiting for Raelle after Raelle had been hospitalised after trying to save Porter.  The tree Scylla sat underneath was actually nowhere near here.

Continue west until you get to #5, the Centre Lawn Building, better known as the Operations Building.

Continue West a little bit further.

This is where Penelope, as The Source, was during the season 2 Camarilla attack.

Go up the stairs and round the back of the buildings.

You will find #3 the Industrial Services Building where they filmed the Mother Mycelium chamber.

You will also find

This is where the Unit had their ‘Hey Camarilla’ encounter.  Note the yellow post on the left.  There is a similar entrance with the post on the right and there were a few shots there, but this was where the main encounter took place.

Continuing round the east side of East Lawn Building, you get to the covered walkway.

There is more.  Go back down to the west end of Circe Barracks.

This is where the Witchplague was in ep 2.10 and Hearst walked out through the middle of it.

Now turn round 1800

The path in front of you is the path of the torchlight Samhain procession.  If you walk down this path, you get to a clearing where the Samhain bonfires were.

From there you can go across the clearing and into the trees and you will find some very familiar trees.

I later discovered there is a different way to get to the trees here. Start at bus stop #53454 in front of the West Lawn Building.  Cross the road and enter the trees to the left.

Go under the tree canopy.

Riverview is very popular with local dog walkers.  But there are no facilities there.  No toilets or anything.  So, once you have finished at Riverview, I suggest going 1.5 miles to Port Coquitlam.  There are two more filming locations, Veterans’ Park and Matteo’s Gelato there.

Veterans’ Park. City Hall Port Coquitlam. Address: 2580 Shaughnessy St, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 3G3 was used in episodes 2.06 (for the Tally / Raelle ‘that’s a lot not to talk about’ conversation) and in 2.09 for Morrigan’s whisper.

Matteo’s Gelato, address: 2615 Mary Hill Rd, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 3A9 is just round the corner from Veterans’ Park and was used in the same two episodes.  In 2.06 Edwin took Raelle and Tally there and they met outside.  In episode 2.09, Edwin was there with Scylla and Tiffany.  They sat in the same booth.

You can get a coffee and a gelato – very nice.  And there are customer toilets.  The booths have been replaced with tables and chairs.  When I was there in May 2025, the green canopy had been replaced with a grey one.
